The Boxcar Boys, featuring six inimitable musicians, deliver a veritable gumbo of original old-style jazz and folk music with dashes of klezmer and country thrown into the mix. Their performances are joyous acoustic celebrations.
Their debut album “Don’t Be Blue” placed them on the EJazzNews list of Best Canadian Jazz bands, then “Rye Whiskey” earned them a nomination for Instrumental Group of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards (2013) and now, a third album, “Cicada Ball,” is in the works.
The Toronto Star describes the Boys (and girls) as “21st-century eclectics, mixing Roma, roots and plain-old rambunctious whimsy… guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a spring in your step”. We’re looking forward to lots of smiling faces at this year’s Deep Roots Music Festival as we welcome this group to our stages.
