We are living through difficult times. The Deep Roots Music Cooperative board members have watched patiently as most of the major events in Nova Scotia have cancelled for this year. Leaders in the music industry are advising that it may be September 2021 before we can once again gather in groups to sing, dance and enjoy music together. Therefore, the Deep Roots Board of Directors is reluctantly announcing the cancellation of our 17th annual festival, scheduled for this coming September. We know that this will be sad (but probably not unexpected) news for our Deep Roots Community. We want to assure you that we will be back presenting the music you love in September 2021. It is a difficult time for those who work in the arts and we encourage everyone to support artists, by buying their music and merchandise when available, by following them on social media, and by streaming their performances.
It takes many people to put on a festival, and although we are not going forward with this year’s event we want to thank everyone who would have supported us: our incredible volunteers; our sponsors/donors – including all levels of government; our audience; our technical workers; our venue owners; and of course the wonderful musicians. We are hopeful that you are all able to stay safe and positive, and that you continue to look forward to helping us make our 2021 festival a huge success.
For those who have already purchased passes for this year, you will be hearing from Ticketpro in the near future. There are three options that you will be offered: 1. you can receive a complete refund for your ticket; 2. you can hold on to your pass and we will honour it for the 2021 festival; 3. or you can donate your refund to Deep Roots and receive a tax receipt – with all donations being used to support local musicians.
We have decided that, in lieu of a festival, we are going to offer biweekly online concerts beginning soon. Our Programmer is hard at work developing a format for us to present music over a number of social platforms, Facebook and YouTube, etc., and to do so at the highest possible standard.
