The Deep Roots community loves to enjoy music all year round.
The Festival (usually the last full weekend in September) is the largest event in the Deep Roots year. Other activities throughout the year include concerts, dances, community meetings and potlucks … building community around music and having a good time in the process.
Annual Canadian Deep Roots Music Festival
Every September, usually the last full weekend of that month, the Deep Roots Music Cooperative brings an awesome blend of up-and-coming, alongside tried-and-true, performers to our festival stages. As well, the weekend includes free events for all ages. This year, because of COVID 19, we have had to shift gears, and instead of our annual festival, we will be bringing you great music concerts online, starting May 30th.
The caliber of talent and the number of opportunities for audiences and performers to enjoy ‘homemade’ music has established the Deep Roots Festival as a Nova Scotia signature festival. During its more than 16 years, the festival has attracted thousands of enthusiastic music lovers and we’re not slowing down.
This year, 2020, our format for bringing performers to appreciative audiences might be changing … due to circumstances beyond our control … but the online concerts being organized will showcase musicians we know you will enjoy in the comfort of your own home, or in small allowable get togethers. We encourage you to follow whatever the current COVID guidelines are.
For now, remember those musical, cultural experiences that left you buzzing with good memories after previous festivals, dream and plan to come to Nova Scotia, Wolfville, and surrounding area, for the next Deep Roots Music Festival, when we are back on the ground, and in the meantime, check out Deep Roots COVID Concerts online.
Presented at the Festival each September, the Valley Arts Award recognizes someone who is, or has been, a resident, has worked for the development and/or promotion of Valley artists, arts events, and/or culture; and has made a significant long-term contribution to the arts in the Valley.
Nominations should be in the form of a letter, or e-mail, outlining the contribution the individual has made to the cultural life of the region. For more particulars, click on above link and go to the Awards page.
Acadia University is an essential partner in the continuing success of the Deep Roots Music Festival. Each year, we undertake joint ventures … click on the above page link for more detail.
