In her new NFB film “The Song and the Sorrow”, Catherine MacLellan confronts the hurtful mystery of her absent father, the late Gene MacLellan, to be able to embrace his musical legacy. 
She is determined to lift the oppressive burden of silence that accompanies the stigma of mental illness and hopes that others can take strength and solace from her story.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.

The show will open with a performance of “The Honour Song” by The Melgita’t Women, and feature performances by Rachel Beck in collaboration with The Atlantic String Machine from PEI, Lindy Vopnfjörð from Toronto, Nova Scotia’s own Erin Costelo, and Makayla Lynn, recognized as Music Nova Scotia’s entertainer of the year.

Friday Night: Concert in the Courtroom
Artists:  Alan Syliboy & The Thundermakers

The show consists of songs, stories (narrative about The Thundermaker) accompanied by multi-media art film and live performance. The members of the group include vocalist, Hubert Francis, from Elsipogtog First Nation and the star of Brookes Diamond production “Drum”; Evan Syliboy, formerly with Lonecloud; Lukas Pearce, bassist/composer/sound designer & editor; and group leader, percussionist/storyteller, Alan Syliboy.

A whole afternoon of artists at the Festival Finale, the show will feature the Valley Arts Award, the Wee Giant Theatre puppets, a multi-media performance by Alan Syliboy and The Thundermakers, Emma Stevens, Gabriel Minnikin, Reeny Smith, and The Vaudevillian.
